Intro:
I am Andy Cao, a lifelong artist, whose journey began with a childlike fascination for sketching the expressive world of cartoons, capturing characters that sparked my imagination. Over time, this early passion blossomed into a disciplined artistic pursuit, refined first through formal training in my teens and later through the precision of technical drawings during my engineering studies at the University of Waterloo. There, I encountered acrylic painting—a vibrant and liberating medium that offered an outlet from the rigor of my studies.
Driven by a desire to merge creativity with analytical thinking, I pursued my Master of Fine Arts in Industrial Design at the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD). At SCAD, my artistic vision broadened, allowing me to refine dynamic freehand sketching techniques essential for industrial design, while also immersing myself in the rich, expressive world of fine art through fine-art electives.
Now, whether painting vivid, energetic artworks on canvas or sketching ideas on paper, art is my truest inspiration—a language through which I aspire to convey personal stories that resonate on a deeply emotional level. My goal is to cultivate a unique artistic voice that invites viewers to connect with my work in a way that is both intimate and thought provoking.
